PBR Master is a tool to quickly generate PBR surface textures for physically-based renedering engines, especially PC-based game engines. It has been written with ease-of-use and versatility in mind and can import a variety of image formats.
- 64-bit multithreaded design.
- UI designed to scale to fit screen (tested at 1366x768 and 1920x1080)
- Simple user interface to improve workflow.
- Most texture sets take less than 30 seconds start to finish.
- Import images in .JPG, .BMP, .PNG, .TGA, or .TIFF formats.
- Generates height map, normal map, ambient occlusion map, roughness map, and metalness map.
- Allows importing individual layer maps for generated images.
- Parameter adjustment sliders function real-time (except AO and Roughness, which may take a few seconds on larger images.)
- Export files in either .PNG (portable) or .DDS (DirectX) formats.
- .DDS files may be exported compressed (BC1, BC2, or BC3 for diffuse/BC4 for grayscale) or uncompressed.
- .DDS files may generate mip maps (for all exports).
- Generated PBR data may be exported as individual files (.PNG/.DDS), as a single channel-packed image (.DDS only), or both.
- Generated PBR data may be exported individually or all at once with a single click.
- User-defined channel-packing order for channel-packed images.
- May optionally export smoothness map instead of roughness when exporting channel-packed data.
This is a work in progress, and while fully functional, additional features and improvements are planned for future realeases. Any and all feedback is welcome!
Planned Features:
- More UI functionality,
- Help screen, About screen, etc.
- Improvements to metalness algorithm.
- As it is virtually impossible to accurately detect metal vs. non-metal, the current algorithm assigns metal based on saturation deviation from grayscale, so quickly discards colored metals such as gold and copper. The plan is to expand this to allow multiple color centers as an option.
- Improvements to roughness algorithm.
- The current algoritm works great to detect how much surface variation there is at any given point, but it also highlights edges since there is a large deviation from the mean at these points. Much of this can be eliminated by setting the "ignore background color" option, but this is not a cure-all solution.
- Built-in image editor.
- This will be a basic image editor especially useful for adjusting height maps, roughness maps, and metalness maps. Will include smoothing and masking features.
- Live 3D texture view.
- View generated texture in a live 3D environment using simple objects or imported 3D models.
- Allow exporting setting data on a per-diffuse image basis.
- This will allow quick adjustments to already-exported PBR sets without having to remember how the parameters were set.
